The push for charging infrastructure at home through the KfW 442 program - KfW stops support program for e-cars after one day
The KfW 442 program, also known as "Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles - Residential Buildings" of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), was intended to be an important step toward electromobility in Germany. The program was aimed in particular at private owners and homeowners' associations who wanted to equip their residential buildings with charging infrastructure. Unfortunately, this program could not be used directly by fleet customers or their company car drivers, as the restriction to private e-vehicles of the applicants applied here. Nevertheless, it was an opportunity for employers and their employees willing to switch to electric vehicles to at least motivate owner associations (WEG) of apartment buildings to develop charging infrastructure. The program was stopped after only 24 hours due to excessive demand.
We show two alternatives in the forest of subsidies program and how companies can benefit from them even better:
The German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) has launched a new funding program to help companies set up fast-charging infrastructure for cars and trucks. Funding is available for commercially used fast-charging points with a charging capacity of at least 50kW and the necessary network connection.
The BMDV funding program is aimed primarily at craft and commercial enterprises as well as fleet users (such as transport and logistics companies, parcel services, rental car and car sharing providers, and care services). In addition to charging points for cars, charging points specifically for trucks are also eligible for funding for the first time on a larger scale.
Why the BMDV's DC grant is relevant to businesses:
Fleet electrification: DC funding is specifically designed to target fleet operators who want to integrate electric vehicles into their fleets. This helps to increase the share of electric vehicles in commercial transport and thus reduce CO₂ emissions.
Fast charging: The program focuses on promoting direct current (DC) fast-charging stations that allow electric vehicles to be charged particularly quickly. This is crucial for fleet operators who need efficient charging times.
Subsidy depending on output:
50-149kW: Small and medium-sized enterprises €14,000, large enterprises €7,000
Over 150 kW: Small and medium-sized enterprises €30,000, large enterprises €15,000
The funding program for charging infrastructure, purchase premiums from the state and federal governments, tax breaks and consulting services make the transition to electromobility more attractive than ever before. North Rhine-Westphalia is in the fast lane here, promoting both the procurement of electric vehicles, the charging infrastructure and the associated implementation concepts.
The funding opportunities in NRW:
Electric vehicles: The state of NRW supports the purchase, leasing or rental of purely electric commercial vehicles up to 8000 euros (depending on the holding period). This includes passenger cars and light commercial vehicles as well as passenger transport and heavy commercial vehicles.
Charging infrastructure: A switch to electromobility requires not only e-vehicles, but also charging infrastructure, and the state funding program has a lot to offer in this area as well: Funding is also available for charging columns and wallboxes in the non-public sector for employees and tenants, commercially used vehicles and in the area of car sharing, as well as public charging points below and above 50 kW.
Implementation concepts: And where do you start? The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has also thought about this: A switch to electromobility requires advice and a precise analysis of the vehicle fleet by experts. For this reason, the state of NRW also supports the creation of professional implementation concepts for the procurement of vehicles and/or the installation of charging infrastructure. The funding amount here is 50% of the expenses and a maximum of 10,000 euros.
Due to the halt of the KfW-442 program, millions of interested parties have to be put off, but the DC funding of the BMDV as well as the funding in NRW are equally significant steps towards the promotion of electromobility in Germany. While the KfW 442 program has mainly supported private individuals and homeowners' associations, the BMDV's DC funding and the NRW state funding program target the electrification of fleet vehicles. Both programs help to expand the charging infrastructure in Germany and further advance electromobility.
Our doors to the future are always open: In addition to our electrification consulting, the installation and operation of charging points, and our billing management, we support the submission of subsidies and help companies on their way to the mobility of tomorrow.
